Pune, 17th November 2025: Winter tightened its grip on the city on Monday as Pashan recorded a minimum temperature of 9.8°C, marking the first single-digit reading of the season. The sharp drop comes amid the continued influence of cold northerly winds dominating the region’s weather pattern.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune is likely to experience similar conditions over the next 24 hours, with minimum temperatures expected to remain below normal.

Several parts of Maharashtra are also experiencing cold-wave-like conditions. IMD data shows that multiple locations across the state recorded temperatures as low as 8°C, particularly in Niphad and Dhule, prompting a “yellow alert” for North Maharashtra and Marathwada.

Weather officials attributed the dip to clear skies and dry air, which have enhanced nighttime cooling. “The dip is significant for mid-November,” an IMD official said.

However, the forecast suggests that temperatures may begin to rise gradually over the next few days. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the weather and forecasting division at IMD Pune, said, “There is no further dip expected in minimum or nighttime temperatures from November 17 onwards. From November 18, minimum temperatures are expected to increase slightly across Maharashtra, including Pune.”

Pune, for the second consecutive day on November 17, recorded a minimum temperature of 10°C—4°C below normal. The maximum temperature has also begun to fall. On Sunday, November 16, the city recorded a maximum of 28.4°C, which is 2.3°C below the normal level.
