Mohammadwadi, 19th November 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has penalised three establishments in the NIBM Annexe–Mohammadwadi area for discharging untreated wastewater into natural drains. Civic officials from the health and sanitation department issued fines of Rs 15,000 to Cavalcade Properties Pvt Ltd, Rs 5,000 to Maple Tower Housing Society, and Rs 10,000 to Queens Tower Society after inspections confirmed violations.

Authorities said the establishments were found releasing wastewater and sewage into nearby nalas, causing contamination and creating hygiene concerns for people living in the vicinity. Officials noted that the discharge of untreated water into canals or natural streams is a clear breach of municipal regulations, which mandate proper treatment and disposal of drainage waste.

The matter came to light after local activist Nitin Dsouza from NIBM Annexe raised complaints about foul smells and polluted water flowing through the canal. His alert prompted the PMC to investigate the issue and initiate immediate action against the erring societies.

Residents in the area said the problem has become recurring, with multiple builders and housing societies in Mohammadwadi facing penalties over the past few years for similar violations — ranging from illegal drainage discharge to unauthorised digging of public roads.
Locals have welcomed the latest action and stressed the need for tighter supervision by the civic administration. They said regular checks and strict penalties are essential to deter repeat offenders and protect the neighbourhood’s environment.
