CM Fadnavis Sets 3-Year Deadline For Pune–Shirur Six-Lane Elevated Road
Pune, 19th November 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to fast-track the proposed 53.4-km Pune–Shirur highway corridor and ensure that the project is completed within the next three years. The plan includes building a four-lane surface road along with a six-lane elevated stretch above it, significantly increasing traffic capacity on this busy route.
According to information shared by the Chief Minister’s Office, a 7.4-km segment will be jointly developed by Maha Metro and the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC). This particular portion will feature an at-grade road with a Metro line running overhead, requiring close coordination between the two agencies.
The project received formal approval during a high-level meeting held in Mumbai on Tuesday. Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde were present for the review.
Fadnavis emphasised that the Pune–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar highway handles exceptionally heavy traffic due to the large number of industrial establishments along the Pune–Shirur belt, making timely execution crucial. “The movement of goods and workforce on this stretch is intense every single day. We cannot afford any delay in starting the work,” he told officials during the meeting, as per the CMO.
MSIDC has already initiated the tendering process for the project, which is expected to commence from the Vimannagar area.
