Pune: Bhawani Peth ‘Fake Doctor’ Gets Bail; Court Says Further Custody Not Needed

Pune, 19th November 2025: A Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court has granted bail to a 57-year-old man accused of practising medicine for 32 years without a valid licence. The court observed that although there is prima facie evidence against him, his further custody is not necessary as substantial investigation has already been completed.
The accused, identified as Pramod Rajaram Gundu, who ran a clinic in Bhawani Peth, was arrested by Khadak Police under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including Sections 318(3), 318(4), 319(2), 336(2), 336(3), and 340(2).
According to the prosecution, Gundu was allegedly providing medical treatment to patients without possessing a valid medical licence. Police stated that “bogus certificates” were recovered from his residence during the investigation. The prosecution opposed bail, contending that the offences were serious, non-bailable, and that releasing him might lead to repetition of similar acts.
Defence counsels Adv Vipul Andhe and Adv Bhakti Andhe argued that Gundu had been falsely implicated due to a family dispute. They submitted that the complaint was allegedly instigated by the father-in-law of the accused’s son to create trouble for the family. The defence also pointed out that Gundu is elderly and suffers from multiple medical conditions.
JMFC Alisha C. Bagal (Court No. 6) noted in the order that while it appears the accused had provided medical treatment without a licence, the investigation is largely complete. “No purpose would be served by keeping the accused behind bars any further,” the court stated.
The court granted bail to Pramod Gundu on a Personal Bond and Surety Bond of ₹50,000, with several strict conditions:
* He must visit Khadak Police Station on every 2nd and 4th Friday between 11:15 am and 12:15 pm until the charge sheet is filed.
• He is prohibited from committing a similar offence.
• He must provide contact details of two blood relatives and cooperate with the investigation.
• He must not tamper with evidence or threaten witnesses.
