Pune/New Delhi, 21st November 2025: The Central government’s UMEED portal, mandated for online registration of all Waqf properties under the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, remained non-functional throughout Friday, triggering widespread concern among Waqf institutions and Mutawallis across the country.

Users reported that the system began showing errors early in the morning, preventing logins, document uploads, and completion of registration forms. This comes after weeks of recurring technical glitches, which have slowed down the registration process nationwide.

With less than two weeks left for the 5 December deadline, thousands of Waqf properties now risk missing the mandatory registration window due to persistent technical failures.

Outside a major Waqf office in Delhi, citizens and representatives expressed strong frustration, urging the Centre to take immediate action.

“The government cannot penalise us for its own portal failure. The UMEED portal has been down since morning and unstable for weeks. We demand that the Ministry of Minority Affairs extend the 5 December deadline by at least one year and issue a public notification confirming it. No Waqf institution should suffer consequences for technical issues beyond our control.”

Demands for an extension have also come from Waqf bodies in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Kerala, where urgent letters have been sent to the Ministry of Minority Affairs and State Waqf Boards. Telangana Chief Minister Revanna Reddy has also written to the Central government seeking an extension.

In Pune, a delegation led by Adv. Sameer Shaikh — including Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind’s Mufti Shahid and Muslim Personal Law Board representative Zahid Shaikh — submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and other Union ministers through the District Collector, requesting an extension of the deadline.

As of Friday evening, the Ministry of Minority Affairs had not issued any official statement on the portal outage or the possibility of extending the registration deadline.
