Petrol Dealers Raise Safety Concerns; Pune Police Pledge Round-the-Clock Protection
Pune, 22nd November 2025: In a move aimed at improving the safety and security of petrol pump employees and infrastructure across Pune, the Pune City Police on Friday held a high-level meeting with the Petrol Dealers Association Pune. The association represents more than 850 petrol pump dealers across the district and is affiliated with the Federation of All Maharashtra Petrol Dealers Associations (FAMPEDA).
The meeting was chaired by the Commissioner of Police, Pune City, and attended by senior officials including the Joint Commissioner of Police, Additional Commissioner of Police and all Deputy Commissioners of Police. The discussions centred around the increasing number of incidents involving violence, threats and criminal intimidation faced by petrol pump staff.
Representatives of the Petrol Dealers Association present at the meeting included Vice Presidents Vijay Lande, Dnyaneshwar Walhekar and Dhananjay Shitole; Kakasaheb Zambare; Treasurer Kalidas More; and members Bhagyendra Chudasama and Narendra Ruparel.
During the meeting, the Association highlighted serious on-ground challenges faced by fuel station workers, citing recent incidents of assault, intimidation and disruption of operations. They expressed concern over the potential risks such acts pose, especially considering that fuel stations store highly inflammable materials essential for public mobility and emergency services.
After detailed deliberations, the Commissioner of Police issued clear instructions to ensure round-the-clock safety at petrol pumps. He assured strict and immediate action against anyone attempting to harm petrol pump staff or damage public property.
The Petrol Dealers Association Pune expressed appreciation for the proactive and sensitive response from the Pune City Police. The Association said enhanced coordination and robust policing measures would help curb such incidents in the future.
“Our dealers and their staff serve Pune 24×7 and play a key role in keeping the city moving. Today’s strong commitment from Pune Police gives great confidence that safety will not be compromised at any cost,” said Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Petrol Dealers Association Pune.
The Association reiterated that the safety of customers and employees remains its highest priority.
