Pune: Hinjawadi IT Park Sees Spike in Fatal Accidents; IT Employees Demand Tech-Based Safety Measures
Hinjawadi, 24th November 2025: A spate of fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles in the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park, Hinjawadi, has prompted IT professionals to seek urgent technological interventions to improve road safety. Sixteen people have lost their lives in the area over the past year, largely due to the movement of dumpers, concrete mixers and other construction vehicles operating on rapidly developing roads in Hinjawadi and Wakad.
“ITians have suggested several measures to enhance safety in the Hinjawadi IT Park and surrounding areas. The rise in accidents is also linked to damaged roads. A joint meeting of all government agencies will be held next week,” said Senior Inspector Balaji Pandhare, in-charge of Hinjawadi police station under Pimpri Chinchwad police.
In response to growing concerns, members of the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) recently met with senior police officials to present a set of tech-driven solutions aimed at reducing accidents. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Patil and Senior Inspector Balaji Pandhare attended the meeting held at the Hinjawadi Police Station.
Officials confirmed that a joint meeting of multiple government agencies—including the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the police—will be held next week to evaluate and implement the proposed measures.
Tech-Based Measures Proposed by IT Professionals
GPS Tracking for Heavy Vehicles: IT employees suggested that every heavy vehicle operating in and around Hinjawadi should be fitted with GPS systems to monitor real-time location, speed, braking style and driving patterns.
Cabin and Dashboard Cameras: Installing cabin and dash cameras can help track driver behaviour and enforce discipline, while also encouraging drivers to operate vehicles more responsibly.
Accident Prevention Sensors: Modern accident-prevention sensors, including proximity alerts, should be made mandatory to reduce collisions caused by blind spots and sudden vehicle movements.
Side and Rear Cameras: Additional cameras on the sides and rear of heavy vehicles would help drivers navigate turns safely—an essential requirement in high-traffic zones like Hinjawadi.
Driver Training: IT professionals stressed the need for structured training programmes to ensure that heavy-vehicle drivers are equipped with proper skills, techniques and safety awareness.
Poor road conditions in parts of Hinjewadi have further contributed to the accident spike, according to residents and police officials.
