Pune, 24th November 2025: Complaints about municipal garbage trucks arriving late, deviating from designated routes, or changing routes mid-way have prompted the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take strict measures. Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur said on Monday that all garbage vehicles will now be continuously monitored through GPS, and a special team has been formed to ensure compliance.

The issue was highlighted during a meeting of the PMC’s Solid Waste Management Department. Kaur instructed officials to address cases of non-segregation of waste and dumping of garbage at improper locations.

Garbage collection centers in Viman Nagar, operating on an experimental model, have faced delays despite the system where clean volunteers collect waste into small vehicles that are later transferred to larger project vehicles. “Even here, complaints of late arrivals and route changes were received, making GPS monitoring necessary,” Kaur said.

A special monitoring team has been set up under the leadership of Kamlakar Shevte. The team will oversee municipal vehicles and take action against violations.

Focus on Public Awareness and Cleanliness
The PMC also plans to raise public awareness to prevent littering in public spaces and to promote proper segregation of waste. Successful experiments from certain areas will be expanded across the city.

Kaur added that citizens who throw garbage in rivers, streams, or public places will first receive guidance. Persistent violations will result in strict action.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the recent mixed waste incident at Loni Kalbhor is ongoing, and the report is yet to be submitted, she said.
