Pune, 24th November 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its pothole-free city campaign by implementing a detailed GIS-based tracking system for repaired roads. Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divate has directed the Road Department to create road-wise and width-wise GIS layers to accurately record pothole filling and road resurfacing activities.

The initiative follows the concept introduced by Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, under which pothole repair and road resurfacing work across the city is being executed at an accelerated pace. The GIS system will ensure precise monitoring, facilitate progress reviews, and enable verification of completed works.

Under the new system, officials are required to upload the width of the repaired road, number of roads worked on, daily work completed in square meters, and maintain a permanent record. Divate has instructed the involvement of GIS experts from the Information and Technology Department or external consultants to support the project.

Officers Tasked with Monitoring and Maintaining Records
Deputy Engineers have been made responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of GIS records, with oversight from the Superintendent Engineer, Executive Engineer, and Chief Engineer. A comprehensive GIS layer of all roadworks will be created, and a copy preserved for future reference, ensuring transparency and accountability in the city’s road maintenance operations.
