Alandi, 1st December 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that Alandi faces severe traffic issues due to the daily influx of pilgrims and claimed the congestion is “worse than Pune.” To address this, the state government has approved a ₹58-crore bypass Ring Road project for Alandi.

“Alandi is a major pilgrimage centre, and thousands visit every day. Traffic management here needs significant improvement. This Ring Road will help reduce congestion and improve overall movement,” Fadnavis said during a campaign event for BJP candidates contesting the Alandi Municipal Council elections.

“We don’t just deliver speeches — we deliver results,” he added.

Fadnavis was accompanied by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, BJP state secretary Rajesh Pandey, district president Pradeep Kand, MLA Mahesh Landge, Uma Khapre and mayoral candidate Prashant Kurhade.

Highlighting the importance of strengthening infrastructure in the fast-growing temple town, he said Alandi is like an extension of Pune city, as devotees from across India visit throughout the year. He stressed that municipal elections are vital to ensure better civic amenities.

Fadnavis criticised past governments, stating that for decades urban expansion was ignored even as migration from rural areas increased. Basic facilities such as drinking water, drainage and waste management had lagged, resulting in unplanned and congested cities.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government prioritised urban development through initiatives such as Smart Cities Mission, Swachh Bharat Urban, Housing for All (Urban) and Har Ghar Jal, with funding of around ₹50,000 crore made available to Maharashtra alone.

The Chief Minister also noted that after the BJP took charge of the Municipal Council in 2017, a drinking water project supplying 10 million litres per day (MLD) was implemented in Alandi. Now, considering the rising population and pilgrim numbers, a new ₹322-crore project has been proposed to further strengthen water supply for the town.
