Pune, 4th December 2025: Policymakers, scientists and global technology leaders gathered in Pune on Thursday to push forward India’s Net Zero ambitions through advanced energy-efficient solutions and stronger partnerships.

The Pioneering Energy Efficiency Forum — organised by Alfa Laval in collaboration with the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in India — brought together senior government officials, global industry experts, technologists, and academia to discuss the role of innovation in industrial decarbonisation and energy savings.

Alfa Laval, co-founder of the Energy Efficiency Movement (EEM), highlighted the importance of adopting efficient technologies at scale. The EEM is a global non-profit initiative promoting energy-efficient practices with 640 member companies across 49 countries, including 140 in India.

Ruchika Drall, Deputy Secretary, Climate Change, MoEFCC, Government of India, shared insights on national strategies to achieve the Net Zero target. Maharashtra’s perspective was presented by Abhijit Ghorpade, Director, State Climate Action Cell, who spoke on “State-Level Climate Action: Strategies for Energy Efficiency and Net Zero Goals.”

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Ashish Lele, Director, CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), said: “Breakthroughs in process technologies and advanced materials are vital for India’s energy efficiency. Public research institutions like CSIR-NCL drive this progress by partnering with industry. I applaud Alfa Laval for creating a platform that fosters collaboration for a Net Zero future.”

The forum opened with remarks by Mike Umiker, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Movement, who underscored the role of collaboration among key stakeholders. Swedish Consul General in Mumbai, Sven Östberg, in a special address, highlighted the growing India–Sweden partnership on sustainability.

In his inaugural address, Thomas Moller, Executive Vice President – Energy Division, Alfa Laval, said the company is committed to supporting the global energy transition. “Alfa Laval is taking an active lead in driving the energy transition forward, providing heat transfer solutions that unlock the full potential of energy efficiency. With nearly a century of working in energy efficiency, we are helping industries save energy and cut emissions,” he said.

Subhasis Das, President and Managing Director, Alfa Laval India, stressed that collective action is key to meeting the nation’s climate goals. “Energy efficiency is the first fuel and India’s most powerful lever for achieving Net Zero by 2070. At Alfa Laval India, we believe in collaborating with our customers to co-create energy efficiency solutions, to turn this vision into reality. Join us in the Energy Efficiency Movement,” he said.

The event featured two panel discussions exploring actionable pathways to accelerate India’s Net Zero transition, including electrification, thermal optimisation, green hydrogen, and collaborative industrial sustainability models. Experts emphasised policy innovation, practical solutions and cross-sector cooperation to overcome decarbonisation barriers.

A major highlight of the forum was the launch of AlfaNova GL50 — a patented, fusion-bonded gas-to-liquid heat exchanger made entirely of stainless steel. It is designed to deliver enhanced efficiency for applications such as green hydrogen, fuel cells, combined heat and power (CHP) systems, and other clean-energy-driven industries.
