Pune AQI Slips to ‘Poor’ Category, Drop in Minimum Temperature Persists
Pune, 8th December 2025: Cold northerly winds have intensified across Maharashtra, pushing Pune’s minimum temperature further down. On Monday, December 8, the city recorded 11.3°C, a drop from 12.9°C on Sunday — marking the second straight day of decline.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), night temperatures are expected to continue falling over the next 2–3 days, with clear skies prevailing. The dip was more significant in several parts of the district, where temperatures slipped to single digits. Malin recorded 9.9°C and Haveli 9.8°C, reflecting a noticeable cold wave effect.
However, even as temperatures cooled, Pune’s air quality worsened. Data from the Sameer app of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 208 — categorised as ‘Poor.’
Lohegaon registered the most toxic air, with AQI levels above 300. Three other stations — Shivajinagar, Bhumkar Nagar, and Hadapsar — recorded AQI readings over 200, while several more crossed the 100 mark, indicating widespread pollution concerns across the city.
