Hadapsar, 10th December 2025: Tensions flared at Sahyadri Hospital in Hadapsar after the family of a deceased patient allegedly vandalised parts of the facility, accusing the hospital of negligence. Police have been deployed at the premises, and an investigation is underway, officials said.

According to Hadapsar Police Inspector Sanjay Mogale, the patient died while undergoing treatment, following which angry relatives damaged property inside the hospital. “We are identifying those involved in the vandalism and further inquiry is in progress,” Mogale said.

The deceased has been identified as the father of Ajay Sapkal, the city head of the medical wing of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.

Sapkal has alleged that his father did not receive proper medical care, resulting in his death. A group of supporters also staged a protest outside the hospital demanding action.

Sapkal said his father was admitted on November 28 around 12.30 pm for an ulcer surgery. “Doctors assured me that he would recover in two days. The operation was conducted the same afternoon, and he initially responded well,” Sapkal told reporters.

He alleged that hospital staff later forced his father to sit in a chair despite his condition, causing the surgical stitches to open. “No doctor informed us properly. Different doctors kept visiting, prescribing medicines but giving no clarity,” he claimed.

Sapkal further alleged that the patient developed an infection and was shifted to dialysis. “This morning around 8 am, doctors said they had to open his chest. My father died soon after,” he said.

Expressing anger, Sapkal said, “If this can happen to my father despite my position, imagine what ordinary citizens must be going through. We do not know who vandalised the hospital, but exploitation of patients here has become routine. I will sit on a hunger strike until strict action is taken.”

Sahyadri Hospital Statement

Sahyadri hospital mentioned, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of the patient who was brought to our hospital with a critical medical condition that had led to multi-organ failure. The 76-year-old patient was admitted on 28th November after receiving initial treatment at another hospital in the city.

Despite the extensive efforts of our team of expert doctors and the use of all appropriate, evidence-based medical protocols, his condition continued to deteriorate due to its extreme severity, and he, unfortunately, passed away today. All medical interventions and clinical decisions were taken strictly in line with established national and international guidelines for managing such high-risk cases.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and share in their grief during this difficult time.

While we remain committed to supporting the family in every possible way, we strongly condemn the violent incident at the hospital and we are filing police complaint for the loss of property as it puts patients, their families, and healthcare staff at serious risk.”
