About Pune Metro Line 3
Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), a special purpose vehicle established through a joint venture between the Tata Group and Siemens, is implementing Pune Metro Line 3. The corridor will connect the IT hub of Hinjawadi with Shivajinagar, a major commercial, administrative and transport hub in Pune.
Developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in collaboration with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the project has been awarded to PITCMRL under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) concession.
The concession period is 35 years, with a provision for an extension of another 25 years. The project is among the first to be developed under the Government of India’s New Metro Policy, 2017, which aims to encourage private investment in urban infrastructure projects.
The 23.3-km elevated corridor comprises 23 stations and is designed to improve connectivity along one of Pune’s major commuter routes. It passes through important residential and commercial areas, including Wakad, Baner, Balewadi and the University Circle.
Pune Metro Line 3 will also provide interchange connectivity with Metro Lines 1 and 2, expanding access to the existing metro network. The corridor will connect with major transport facilities, including Shivajinagar Railway Station and bus depots at Shivajinagar and Wakad.
It will also offer connectivity at two locations along National Highway 48, which connects Pune and Bengaluru, providing commuters with additional options for accessing the city through public transport.
