Katraj, 16th December 2025: On a road stretch that has recorded over 55 accidents and at least 25 fatalities in the past four-and-a-half years, another life was lost on Monday morning when a 52-year-old woman died in a collision involving a container on the unfinished Katraj–Kondhwa road near the ISKCON temple. The incident has once again highlighted the serious risks posed by the long-pending roadwork on the stretch.

The deceased was identified as Rama Prasad Kapadi, a resident of the Katraj–Kondhwa Road area. Kapadi worked as a coordinator at a school in Mohammadwadi and was commuting to work when the accident occurred around 7.30 am.

According to police, Kapadi was travelling towards Katraj from the Khadi Machine Chowk side when her two-wheeler came under the rear wheels of a container. Both her legs were crushed, leading to severe blood loss. Due to heavy traffic congestion at the spot, immediate medical assistance could not reach her. Local residents later rushed her to a hospital in an autorickshaw, where she was declared dead during treatment.

Residents blamed the accident on the incomplete road, a narrow carriageway, sharp diversions created due to ongoing work, and severe traffic congestion along the stretch.

Kapadi had lost her husband 15 years ago and was the sole earning member of her family. She lived with her mother and daughter. Her death has left the family in distress, with concerns raised over her daughter’s education and livelihood.

The 3.5-km-long Katraj–Kondhwa road has witnessed more than 55 accidents over the past four-and-a-half years, claiming at least 25 lives. Despite repeated complaints from citizens, the roadwork has remained incomplete for years, making it one of the most accident-prone stretches in the area. Residents have questioned how many more lives will be lost before authorities take urgent corrective action.
