Valuables Worth Rs 10 Lakh Stolen on Bengaluru–Mumbai Udyan Express, Pune Railway Police Arrest Accused
Pune, 17th December 2025: The Pune Railway Police have arrested a man accused of stealing valuables worth over ₹10 lakh from a newlywed couple travelling on the Bengaluru–Mumbai Udyan Express. The arrest was made at Mohol in Solapur district, and stolen property worth ₹9.68 lakh has been recovered.
The complainant, Bhavik Lalitkumar Jain (26), a resident of Byculla in Mumbai, was travelling with his wife and family from Bengaluru to Mumbai on December 15. Jain had married on December 4 and was returning home after the wedding ceremonies.
According to the police, the theft occurred after the train departed from Solapur railway station in the early hours of December 16. The couple noticed that a laptop bag kept on the upper berth in their reserved coach was missing. The stolen bag contained a gold bracelet weighing around seven tolas, two iPhones, an Apple laptop, and ₹33,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at ₹10.19 lakh.
Jain alighted at Daund railway station and lodged a complaint with the Daund Railway Police. Following the complaint, a joint investigation was launched by the Daund Railway Police and the Local Crime Branch of the Pune Railway Police.
Using technical surveillance and inputs, the police traced the accused moving towards Solapur via the Pune–Solapur National Highway. A chase was conducted through Kurkumbh, Mald, Swami Chincholi, Bhigwan, Loni, Indapur, Tembhurni, and finally Mohol.
At Mohol, the police stopped a Manchar–Akkalkot State Transport bus on suspicion. During inspection, a young man was found behaving suspiciously. A search led to the recovery of two iPhones, a gold bracelet, and ₹33,000 in cash.
During interrogation, the accused was identified as Channavir Basavaraj Ramshetti (27), a resident of Aland Sur village in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka. Police said the stolen Apple laptop is yet to be recovered, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Pune Railway Police Superintendent Ashwini Sanap, Additional SP Rohidas Pawar, Deputy Superintendent Manojkumar Yadav, Inspector Rajendra Gaikwad, Assistant Inspector Balasaheb Antarkar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhananjay Veer, Head Constable Anand Waghmare, Constables Narendra Pawar, Akash Chavan, Sajit Jagtap, Sandeep Usare, and driver Sandeep Kakade.
