Adarsh Modi Takes Charge as Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Pune
Pune, 22 December 2025 — Senior Indian Revenue Service officer Adarsh Kumar Modi has assumed charge as Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Pune, and will hold additional charge for Nagpur with immediate effect.
An IRS officer of the 1990 batch, Modi brings over three decades of experience across assessment, investigation, appellate work, TDS administration and vigilance. He most recently served as Director General of Income Tax (Vigilance) and Chief Vigilance Officer at the Central Board of Direct Taxes in New Delhi, where he led the department’s integrity and oversight functions.
Modi served in the Pune charge between 2012 and 2019 in a series of senior roles, including Commissioner of Income Tax (Departmental Representative) at the ITAT, Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) and Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS). His earlier assignments include field and headquarters postings in Gujarat and Delhi, with significant experience in investigation and vigilance directorates.
Officers in the region expect Modi to focus on efficient case disposal, improved taxpayer service and strengthened vigilance, drawing on his background in both enforcement and adjudication. He is also known for an interest in Hindustani classical music, a personal detail frequently noted by colleagues.
Modi’s appointment to the Pune charge comes close to his scheduled superannuation at the end of January 2026, marking the culmination of a long career in tax administration.
