Pune, 24th December 2025: Despite a slight rise in minimum temperatures, cold conditions continue to prevail across Pune and adjoining areas, with several weather stations still recording single-digit night temperatures.

On December 24, Pune city recorded a minimum temperature of 9.9 degrees Celsius, up from 8.1 degrees Celsius a day earlier. However, the marginal increase has offered little relief, as the chill remains pronounced during late-night and early-morning hours.

The Pashan and Baramati weather stations also reported single-digit minimum temperatures at 9.2 degrees Celsius and 9.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. In other parts of the district, night temperatures ranged between 10 and 16 degrees Celsius, depending on location and local wind conditions.

Meteorological officials said the city is unlikely to witness a further drop in night temperatures over the next 48 hours, till December 25. This is mainly due to a disturbance in northerly winds, along with the growing influence of easterly winds bringing moisture into parts of Maharashtra.

“The easterly wind pattern is restricting further cooling at night and increasing moisture levels in the lower atmosphere,” an official said. The change in wind circulation has also led to haze formation during late-night and early-morning hours across several parts of the city.

Meanwhile, Pune’s air quality showed a slight improvement over the past 24 hours. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 168, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category, according to official data. While the improvement offers some relief, experts have advised vulnerable groups to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, especially during early morning hours when haze and cold conditions coincide.

Weather officials said night temperatures are expected to remain largely stable over the next few days, with no sharp fluctuations anticipated unless there is a significant change in wind patterns.
