Pune Artist with Down Syndrome Wins National Award, Redefines Inclusion Through Art
Pune, 25th December 2025: Pune-based young artist Dhriti has been honoured with a National Award for her achievements in art and her contribution to promoting inclusion through creative expression. Born with Down syndrome, Dhriti’s journey challenges long-held perceptions about disability and highlights how talent can flourish when nurtured with belief and opportunity.
Dhriti is one of the founding artists of Tickle Your Art, a Pune-founded inclusive art platform that works with artists with intellectual disabilities. Her artwork, recognised for its bold colours, raw energy and emotional honesty, has found a place far beyond gallery walls. Her creations have been adapted into everyday products, corporate gifts and awareness-driven initiatives, reaching homes, offices and schools across India.
The National Award acknowledges not just Dhriti’s artistic talent, but also her role in reshaping conversations around inclusion. Through her work, she has helped shift attention from perceived limitations to creative possibilities, encouraging a broader dialogue on dignity, equal opportunity and representation for persons with disabilities.
For Tickle Your Art, Dhriti’s recognition reflects the impact of inclusive platforms that focus on ability rather than disability. By creating space for self-expression and professional opportunities, such initiatives have enabled artists like Dhriti to find their voice and audience.
Dhriti’s achievement is a proud moment for Pune and a milestone for India’s growing community of artists with intellectual disabilities. Her story reinforces a powerful message: inclusion is not about charity or sympathy, but about respect, visibility and belief in potential.
