Pune: Fake Apple Accessories Racket Busted in Budhwar Peth, Six Booked; Stock Worth Over Rs 10 Lakh Seized
Budhwar Peth, 27th December 2025: A crackdown on the sale of counterfeit electronic products has led Pune Police to book six shopkeepers operating from Budhwar Peth, where fake Apple mobile accessories worth more than Rs 10 lakh were seized during a coordinated raid, officials said on Wednesday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams raided shops located in Samarth Plaza and Adron Business Centre in the Tapkir Galli area, where counterfeit accessories were allegedly being sold both at wholesale and retail levels. The operation resulted in the seizure of spurious chargers, adapters, earphones, AirPods, mobile covers, and other accessories that closely resembled genuine Apple products in branding and packaging.
The cases were registered at Faraskhana Police Station on the complaint of Vijay Yashwant Sangelkar (50), a Bandra-based authorised representative of Apple Inc., who alerted the police about the illegal sale of counterfeit products using the company’s trademark.
Those booked include Kasanaram Ghigaji Chaudhary (25), Mukesh Purikaran Purigoswami (29, Katraj), Manish Karmiram Chaudhary (37, Pimple Saudagar), Jogsingh Rupsing Rajput (35, Rasta Peth), Hiteshkumar Madharam Purohit (25, Shukrawar Peth), and Rajeshchandra Krishnachandra Goyal (60, Kondhwa).
Police said the accused were allegedly involved in manufacturing, storing, and selling fake Apple accessories by imitating the original design and packaging, misleading customers into believing they were purchasing authentic products. The action was taken under provisions of the Copyright Act.
The raids were carried out by a team working under Deputy Commissioner of Police Krushikesh Rawale, including Police Sub-Inspector Jadhav and constables Mane, Ravindra Pawar, Chivale, Kudalkar, and Raju Sheikh, along with personnel from Faraskhana Police Station led by PSI Santosh Gore.
During the operation, counterfeit goods worth Rs 10,39,700 were seized from shops identified as Prem Telecom, Raj Telecom Shop, Om Rajeshwar Shop, Raj Sales, Hira Mobile Spare, and Goyal Mobile Shop at Adron Business Centre.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify the source of the counterfeit products.
