Pune, 30th December 2025: Indian Railways has rolled out a set of nationwide changes to its unreserved ticketing ecosystem, including new features in the UTSonMobile App and a 3 per cent discount on unreserved ticket bookings made through the RailOne App using digital payment modes. The measures are part of a broader national initiative to consolidate digital services and promote cashless ticketing across the railway network.

According to official communication received from the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), a new version of the UTSonMobile App has been released and is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Older versions of the app will be disabled, making it mandatory for users to update to the latest version.

As part of the functional changes, a new “Transfer Ticket” option has been introduced in the ‘Show Ticket’ section for Season Tickets booked through the UTSonMobile App. Simultaneously, the facility for issue and renewal of Season Tickets on the UTSonMobile App has been permanently disabled. A dedicated link redirecting users to download the RailOne App has been added on the Season Ticket booking page.

Registration of new users on the UTSonMobile App has also been permanently disabled. An alert message has been incorporated on the registration screen to inform users of this change. In addition, a pop-up alert has been introduced on the UTSonMobile App homepage, prompting users to download the RailOne App. This alert appears once a day and, if skipped, remains hidden for the rest of the day.

Further, the Railway Board has announced a 3 per cent discount on booking of unreserved tickets through the RailOne App with effect from 14 January 2026. The discount will be applicable on bookings made using all digital payment modes available on the RailOne App, excluding payments made through the R-wallet.

The changes are being implemented against the backdrop of steadily increasing unreserved passenger volumes at the national level. As per official data, the number of passengers travelling in general and unreserved coaches stood at 99 crore in 2020–21 and 275 crore in 2021–22, both years affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Passenger numbers rose to 553 crore in 2022–23, increased further to 609 crore in 2023–24, and reached 651 crore in 2024–25.

At the divisional level, Pune Division data reflects this larger national trend. Unreserved passenger traffic in the division increased from 5.65 million in 2021–22 to 42.49 million in 2024–25. Suburban unreserved ticketing system (UTS) passengers grew from 4.457 million to 21.7 million during the same period, while non-suburban UTS passengers rose from 1.192 million to 20.8 million.

Railway administrations have been advised to take necessary steps for wide publicity of the new app features and the RailOne discount scheme. Instructions are also to be issued to all concerned staff to ensure implementation and compliance with the revised digital ticketing framework.
