Pune: Indian Army Awards Bharat Forge Rs 1,662 Crore Contract for CQB Carbines

Pune/New Delhi, 31st December 2025: The Indian Ministry of Defence has awarded Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) a contract worth Rs 1,661.9 crore for the supply of 255,128 CQB Carbines (5.56 x 45 mm) to the Indian Army. The agreement, signed on December 30, 2025, specifies that the delivery of the firearms will be completed within five years.

The 5.56 x 45 mm CQB Carbine is an indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured (IDDM) weapon, created through a collaboration between the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), DRDO, and Bharat Forge Limited, Pune. The compact firearm aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, reflecting the commitment of BFL and its wholly-owned defence subsidiary, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), to supply advanced ‘Made in India’ defence platforms to the Indian Armed Forces.
