Pune Municipal Elections 2026: Apoorva Khade Bets on Planned Redevelopment in Ward 12

Shivajinagar, 1st January 2026: As preparations gather pace for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, Ward No. 12 covering Shivajinagar–Model Colony has emerged as a keenly observed constituency. Among the candidates in the fray is Apoorva Khade, a young political aspirant who is seeking to position himself as a representative of generational change rooted in long-standing public service.
Khade comes from a family with over two decades of involvement in politics and social work. Growing up in an environment closely linked to governance and community engagement, he says his understanding of civic issues developed at the grassroots level. “Public service was never a separate choice for me. It has been part of my everyday life since childhood,” Khade said, referring to his early exposure to community issues and local administration.
His academic background sets him apart from many first-time contenders in municipal politics. Khade holds double master’s degrees in International Business and Political Science. According to him, this combination has shaped his approach to governance. “Planning, accountability and measurable outcomes are essential. Development should not be limited to announcements; it must translate into visible results on the ground,” he said.
In the run-up to the elections, Khade has highlighted his work on issues that directly affect residents of the ward. Women’s welfare and safety feature prominently among these. Initiatives such as the installation of sanitary pad vending machines in public toilets and coordination with the Nirbhaya Cell on safety-related measures have been cited as examples of his on-ground engagement. “These are basic facilities, but they make a real difference in everyday life,” Khade noted.
Education and youth development form another focus area of his campaign. With Pune’s reputation as a major education hub, Khade has been associated with the establishment of a 24×7 public library aimed at providing students with uninterrupted access to a safe study environment. He has also supported the setting up of a community gym to promote fitness among young residents. “Development has to address both the mind and the body. Cities grow stronger when their youth are supported in all aspects,” he said.
Looking ahead, Khade has identified redevelopment as a key priority for Ward No. 12, citing ageing infrastructure and increasing urban density. However, he has stressed that redevelopment must be carefully planned and transparent. “Redevelopment is necessary, but it should not mean years of inconvenience for residents. People must be taken into confidence, and work should be time-bound and accountable,” he said.
While aligning himself with the broader national emphasis on development, Khade has underlined the need for people-centric planning at the local level. He has often echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on development, while maintaining that urban growth must improve quality of life rather than disrupt it. “Modernisation should make daily living easier, not more stressful,” he said.
Residents and local workers associated with him describe Khade as approachable and methodical, with a focus on execution rather than rhetoric. His campaign has largely centred on consistent engagement with citizens and highlighting practical solutions to civic challenges.
As voters in Shivajinagar–Model Colony prepare to elect their next corporator, Apoorva Khade’s candidature reflects a broader trend of younger leaders entering municipal politics with a mix of legacy experience and contemporary outlook. With an emphasis on planned redevelopment, social initiatives and citizen engagement, his campaign adds to the evolving political landscape of one of Pune’s most prominent wards.
