Pimpri-Chinchwad, 1st January 2026: In the run-up to New Year 2026 celebrations, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police conducted a special traffic drive against drunken driving, resulting in 240 motorists being booked, officials said.

The operation, aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring public safety during the festive period, was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Chaubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Rashikant Mahavarkar, and Additional Commissioner of Police Sarang Awad, following directions from Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Patil.

During the campaign, the traffic department’s 13 units set up 47 checkpoints across Pimpri-Chinchwad. A total of 220 two-wheeler riders and 20 four-wheeler drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol. All offenders are being booked under the “Drunk and Drive” provisions in the court of law.

Deputy Commissioner Patil urged motorists to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and warned that such special drives would continue in the future. “Drivers are advised to refrain from alcohol consumption while driving to avoid legal action and ensure the safety of themselves and others,” he said.
