Viman Nagar, 2nd January 2026: Sahil, a 25-year-old independent candidate from Ward 3 in the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections, has been disqualified after election officials cited a requirement that was not mentioned in the official candidate handbook or nomination guidelines.

According to available information, Sahil, an entrepreneur and engineer, had submitted his nomination papers within the stipulated time. His documents were examined during the official scrutiny process by PMC election authorities, and no objections were raised at that stage.

However, after the scrutiny was completed, he was informed that his nomination had been rejected on the grounds of a condition that had not been disclosed to candidates earlier. The requirement was neither published in official instructions nor communicated during the nomination process, Sahil has claimed.

The development has raised questions about the application of election rules and procedural transparency. Election processes require that eligibility criteria and conditions be clearly stated and uniformly enforced to ensure fairness for all candidates.

Sahil has approached the State Election Commissioner in Mumbai, seeking a review of the decision. He is also exploring legal options to challenge the disqualification, sources said.
