Pune: Koregaon Park Rs 11 Lakh Robbery Case Turns False, Housewife Admits to Filing Fake Complaint
Koregaon Park, 8th January 2026: Police probing an alleged robbery of valuables worth ₹11 lakh in Koregaon Park have found that the complaint was false and was filed by the complainant herself, a 29-year-old housewife, to hide the loss of money, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the police, the woman had claimed that two unidentified men entered her flat and robbed her while she was alone at home. However, investigations found no evidence to support her version.
A team led by Senior Inspector Vijayraj Doke and Sub-Inspector Shrikant Chavan of Koregaon Park police, along with officers from the crime branch, conducted a detailed probe into the case. Police examined CCTV footage from the housing society and surrounding areas but did not find any suspicious movement or visuals matching the description given in the complaint.
“As part of the investigation, we verified CCTV footage and cross-checked the sequence of events mentioned by the complainant. There was no corroborative evidence to support the robbery claim,” a senior police officer said.
Later, police recreated the incident timeline and questioned the woman again. During sustained questioning, she allegedly admitted that the robbery had not taken place and that she had filed a misleading complaint.
Police said the woman revealed that she had been in contact with a black magic practitioner in Rajasthan through a family member, following difficulties in conceiving after marriage. Though she later gave birth to a baby girl, the practitioner allegedly continued to demand money for rituals and remedies.
“To meet these demands, she sold her jewellery and other valuables over a period of time. When the valuables were exhausted, she found it difficult to explain the missing jewellery and money to her family,” the officer said.
Under pressure, the woman allegedly decided to fabricate a robbery story to conceal the matter. “She was under severe stress and felt staging a robbery was the only way out,” the officer added.
The family, which runs a grocery shop in Koregaon Park, lives together in the flat along with seven other relatives. Police said further legal action will be taken after completing procedural formalities.
