Pune Metro to Operate Till Midnight on January 15; City Put Under High Security Cover for Polls

Pune, 14th January 2026: To ensure smooth mobility for citizens on polling day, Pune Metro services will run for extended hours on Thursday, January 15, starting early morning and continuing until midnight, officials announced.

In a statement issued by Pune Metro, authorities said the first train will depart at 5 am, while the last service will operate until 12 am, allowing voters, election staff and commuters to travel conveniently throughout the day. Regular metro timings will be restored on Friday, January 16, with services resuming at 6:00 a.m.

Parallelly, the Pune City Police have intensified security arrangements ahead of the municipal elections, rolling out a comprehensive law-and-order plan to ensure a peaceful and transparent polling process.

As part of preventive policing, 143 sensitive pockets across the city have been sealed, while over 100 vulnerable locations have been identified for close surveillance. Personnel from the Crime Branch and specialised police units have been deployed in these areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

Multi-Layer Surveillance Mechanism

The police have also activated a multi-tier monitoring system, including:

18 static surveillance teams

15 mobile patrol squads

15 video surveillance units

These teams will maintain continuous vigilance to deter illegal activities and provide a sense of security to voters.

A substantial security force has been mobilised for election duty, comprising:

14 Deputy Commissioners of Police

30 Assistant Commissioners of Police

7 probationary ACPs

166 Police Inspectors

723 Assistant and Sub-Inspectors

Nearly 12,500 police personnel

3,250 Home Guards

Four companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF)

Officials said the coordinated effort between public transport authorities and law enforcement agencies is aimed at facilitating uninterrupted travel while safeguarding the democratic process across Pune.
