Pune, 14th January 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration has announced its complete readiness for the General Election 2025-26, scheduled for tomorrow, January 15, 2026. Voting will be conducted across the city from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

City Election Officer and Municipal Commissioner, Naval Kishore Ram, addressed the press today, detailing the massive logistical exercise undertaken to ensure a smooth democratic process for the 165 seats across 41 wards.

The Numbers Game
A total of 1,153 candidates are contesting the elections, comprising 627 men and 528 women. Two candidates from wards 35B and 35D have already been declared elected unopposed as of January 12.

Most Competitive: Ward No. 6 sees the highest traffic with 43 candidates.

Least Competitive: Ward No. 35 has the fewest, with only 5 candidates.

Logistics and Staffing
The administration has set up 4,011 polling stations across 932 locations. To manage this extensive exercise, a workforce of approximately 25,899 polling staff has been deployed.

Sensitive Booths: Out of the total stations, 906 have been identified as ‘sensitive,’ while there are zero ‘critical’ (hyper-sensitive) booths.

Special Booths: The election will feature 16 “Pink Booths” (managed entirely by women) and 14 Model Polling Stations to enhance the voting experience.

Transportation: Over 1,100 vehicles, including 532 large buses, have been acquired to transport polling parties and EVMs.

Voter Facilitation and Rules
The administration reported that 85% of voter slips have already been distributed. For those who haven’t received them, a search engine facility is available at pmcvotersearch.digielection.com.

Voters are reminded that mobile phones are strictly prohibited inside the polling stations. However, to ensure no voter is turned away for lack of a voter ID card, the Election Commission has authorized 12 alternative proof of identity documents, including:
Passport
Aadhaar Card
Driving License
PAN Card
ID cards issued by Central/State Govt/PSUs
Bank/Post Office Passbooks with photos
Disability ID cards
MNREGA Job Cards
Pension Documents with photos
Official ID cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs
Freedom Fighter ID cards
Health Insurance Smart Cards (Ministry of Labour)

Enforcement and Seizures
Strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been visible. The flying squads (FST) and static surveillance teams (SST) have seized cash amounting to ₹70.01 lakhs, liquor worth ₹81.38 lakhs, and drugs/narcotics valued at ₹11.09 lakhs. A total of 172 squads are currently active to prevent malpractice.

Counting and Results
Vote counting is scheduled to take place at 15 designated centers. Extensive arrangements, including CCTV surveillance and three-tier security, have been made for the counting process.

Appeal to Voters
Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has appealed to all citizens to come out and vote fearlessly to strengthen democracy. “Pune is the home of education and intellect; let us lead in voting percentage as well,” the press note concluded.
