PMC Elections: BJP Takes Early Lead in Pune Municipal Corporation Elections; Ajit Pawar’s NCP Trails

Pune, 16th January 2026: Early trends from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections indicate a strong lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with its ally, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), making significant gains. Meanwhile, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP has struggled to make an impact.

A total of 162 seats across 41 wards were contested, with 82 seats required for a majority in the 165-member civic body. According to preliminary reports, the BJP–Shinde alliance is leading in over 30 wards, signaling a clear advantage, while the Ajit Pawar NCP has made inroads in only a handful of wards, reflecting a disappointing performance in the city.
