Pune, 27th January 2026: A 14-year-old boy selling balloons on the roadside sustained serious injuries after being hit by a speeding truck at Hinjawadi IT Park on Sunday morning, despite a ban on heavy vehicles in the area ahead of Republic Day.

The accident occurred around 10 am when the truck struck the boy, causing severe leg injuries and heavy bleeding. IT professionals passing by rushed him to a private hospital in Pirangut, but the hospital reportedly refused admission.

The boy was subsequently taken to another private hospital in Lavale around noon. However, due to the unavailability of an ICU bed and a vascular surgeon, he was referred again and finally admitted to Sancheti Hospital in Pune at approximately 1.30 pm.

Although there was a delay in starting surgery, emergency treatment was immediately provided. Intervention by the Forum for IT Employees prompted PMRDA Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase to coordinate with Dr Parag Sancheti, who was in Dubai at the time, ensuring that treatment was not delayed due to financial constraints.

The surgery was successfully completed around 8.40 pm, and the boy’s condition is reported to be stable. Members of the Forum for IT Employees, Ashutosh Pandey, Prashant Pandit and Pavanjit Mane, remained at the hospital to oversee his care.

Police have taken the truck driver into custody for questioning. Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Patil and Senior Inspector Balaji Pandhare of Hinjawadi Police Station, further legal action against the driver is ongoing.
