Mamata Banerjee Seeks Supreme Court-Monitored Probe into Ajit Pawar Plane Crash, Alleges Possible Conspiracy
Kolkata/Baramati, 28th January 2026: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the plane crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, alleging that the incident may involve a larger conspiracy.
Expressing shock over Pawar’s death, Banerjee said the circumstances surrounding the crash raised serious safety concerns and demanded a thorough and impartial probe. “I am very much shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Ajit Pawar in a plane crash. There is no safety and security of the people of this country, even political leaders. The incident needs proper investigation,” she said while speaking to reporters in Kolkata.
She further stated that recent political developments added to her concerns. Referring to social media discussions, Banerjee claimed she had come across reports suggesting Pawar might have been considering a political shift. “Before a few days, I came to know from social networks that somebody from another party had stated that Ajit Pawar was willing to leave the BJP,” she said, adding that the matter warranted closer scrutiny.
Earlier in the day, Banerjee also posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying she was “deeply shocked and stunned” by Pawar’s sudden demise and extended condolences to his family, including Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) patriarch Sharad Pawar, as well as his supporters and colleagues.
