Lok Sabha Speaker Condoles Demise of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in Baramati Air Crash

New Delhi/Baramati, 28th January 2026: The nation mourns the sudden loss of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who, along with five others, died in a tragic plane crash near Baramati on Wednesday. The chartered Learjet 45 crashed during a landing attempt at Baramati Airport, claiming the lives of Deputy CM Pawar, his personal security officer, the pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, the co-pilot, and two additional crew members.

In response to the tragedy, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed deep condolences, describing the incident as “extremely tragic” and highlighting Pawar’s significant contributions to the state. “Ajit Pawar had also served as a Member of the 10th Lok Sabha from the Baramati parliamentary constituency in Maharashtra. He will always be remembered for his work in the cooperative sector, public welfare, and state development,” Birla said.

He further prayed for “eternal peace to the departed souls and strength to the grieving families and supporters to bear this loss. Om Shanti.”

On the first day of the 7th Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, Speaker Birla led the House in paying obituary references to Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and other dignitaries, marking a solemn tribute to the departed leader.
