Pune: Sunetra Ajit Pawar Appointed Guardian Minister of Pune and Beed Districts
Pune, 3rd February 2026: The Government of Maharashtra on Tuesday appointed Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar as the new Guardian Minister for both Pune and Beed districts, filling the roles left vacant after the untimely death of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Anantrao Pawar. The appointment, which is effective immediately, was confirmed in an official order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD).
The dual assignment aims to ensure administrative continuity and sustained momentum in development initiatives across two strategically important districts. The government order, published on the official state portal with digital authentication, outlines Sunetra Pawar’s responsibilities, which include steering implementation of government schemes, coordinating inter-departmental efforts, and monitoring progress across key sectors.
Sunetra Pawar, who already serves as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, will now also act as the principal state government representative linking Pune’s urban governance and Beed’s rural development priorities. Her expanded role places her at the centre of district-level oversight, policy coordination, and administrative review at a time when governance transition requires steady leadership.
As guardian minister, she will preside over district review meetings, oversee flagship programme execution, and address administrative challenges in both regions. Pune a major economic and industrial hub and Beed, a district with critical developmental needs, will benefit from unified oversight under her stewardship.
Sunetra Pawar’s expanded portfolio underscores the state administration’s focus on cohesive district governance as policy implementation and oversight remain priorities in the current administrative cycle.
