Lonavala, 5th February 2026: Commuters on the Pune–Mumbai Expressway faced massive traffic congestion on Thursday morning, with vehicles crawling for hours between Kamshet and Khalapur since early morning. Motorists reported being stranded in long queues, with little to no movement on the busy stretch.

Several travellers said they were stuck for more than three hours. “We are going from Pune to Mumbai via the expressway and have been standing at the same spot for the last three hours near Brahmanwadi, close to Kamshet,” said a Central Government employee.

The situation worsened after the expressway had earlier been blocked on Tuesday evening when a gas tanker overturned near the Adoshi Tunnel, triggering safety concerns and forcing authorities to restrict traffic movement. Although partial traffic was later allowed, the backlog of vehicles led to severe congestion through Thursday morning.

Traffic police have urged motorists to check live updates before heading out and to consider alternate routes where possible. Commuters have been advised to remain patient and follow police instructions to avoid further chaos on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway.
