Dhanori, 7th February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a large-scale anti-encroachment operation in Dhanori, removing illegal structures spread over 11,200 square feet of public land. The drive focused on unauthorised tin sheds that had encroached on roads and civic spaces, creating obstacles for residents and commuters.

The action was led by the civic body’s Encroachment and Unauthorised Construction Removal Department under Deputy Commissioner Somanath Bankar, with Assistant Commissioner Prakash Valgude overseeing the operation.

Locations Cleared

Encroachments were removed from two major spots in the locality:
-5,100 sq ft of illegal occupation near Bharat Mata Market
-6,100 sq ft of unauthorised structures along Bharat Mata Road close to the fish market

Officials said the demolition has widened road space, improved pedestrian access, and helped ease traffic congestion in the busy neighbourhood.

PMC authorities stated that the mushrooming of unauthorised stalls, temporary sheds, and market extensions had led to frequent traffic bottlenecks, sanitation concerns, and inconvenience to local residents. Acting on instructions from Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, the civic administration has stepped up its anti-encroachment efforts across Pune.

Deputy Commissioner Bankar warned that individuals who have already received notices must remove encroachments within the stipulated timeframe. He added that any attempt to obstruct civic action or pressure officials could result in criminal cases under provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949.

He further emphasised that similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming months as part of PMC’s efforts to maintain organised public spaces and improve urban mobility.
