Pune, 9th February 2026:The election for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was held unopposed today after the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) withdrew from the contest. BJP’s Manjusha Nagpure was elected Mayor, while Parshuram Wadekar of the BJP–Republican Party (Athawale faction) was elected Deputy Mayor without opposition.
The election process began at 11:15 am in the PMC’s main hall. Presiding Officer Jitendra Dudi conducted the proceedings. Earlier, BJP group leader Ganesh Bidkar had requested Congress and NCP leaders to allow an unopposed election in view of the recent demise of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, senior social activist Dr Baba Adhav, Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi, and former Mayor Shantilal Suratwala.
For the Mayor’s post, nominations filed by Congress candidate Ashwini Landge, NCP’s Sheetal Sawant, and BJP’s Manjusha Nagpure were found valid. During the withdrawal period, first Sheetal Sawant and later Ashwini Landge withdrew their nominations. As a result, Presiding Officer Dudi declared Manjusha Nagpure elected unopposed as Mayor.
The process for the Deputy Mayor’s post followed. Nominations by Congress’s Sahil Kedari, NCP’s Datta Bahirat, and BJP–Republican Party’s Parshuram Wadekar were accepted. After Bahirat and Kedari withdrew their candidatures, Wadekar was declared elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor.
After the completion of the election, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol attended the session and congratulated the newly elected Mayor Manjusha Nagpure and Deputy Mayor Parshuram Wadekar.
