Pune/Baramati,9th February 2026: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar was moved to a private hospital in Pune on Monday after experiencing health complications, party sources confirmed. The 83-year-old veteran politician had reportedly been unwell for several days before doctors advised further treatment in Pune.

Medical teams reached Pawar’s Govindbag residence in Baramati early in the morning to assess his condition. After nearly an hour of examination, doctors recommended that he be transferred for advanced care. He subsequently left for Pune in the afternoon, accompanied by a cardiac-equipped ambulance as a precautionary measure.

Sources close to the family said Pawar has been suffering from persistent coughing and phlegm, which has caused breathing discomfort. Wearing a protective mask, he travelled in a separate vehicle while medical support remained on standby. The exact nature of his ailment and the name of the hospital have not yet been officially disclosed.

Pawar’s health is believed to have been further strained by recent emotional and physical exertion. Although he had largely stayed away from public engagements for the past two to three months due to illness, he resumed meeting party workers and members of the public following the sudden death of his nephew and party leader Ajit Pawar.

Last week, he spent three consecutive days at the cooperative housing society where Ajit Pawar had lived, as party leaders and well-wishers gathered to offer condolences. The continuous stream of visitors to Baramati over the past eight days is understood to have contributed to his fatigue.

The episode comes at a time of heightened political activity, with district council and panchayat election results being announced across the state. Pawar had been closely monitoring developments despite his health concerns.
