Shivajinagar, 13th February 2026: In a shocking incident at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters on Friday afternoon, a man allegedly pulled out a pistol and held it to his own head inside the Property Tax Department office, threatening to shoot himself following a dispute over property tax assessment.

According to officials, the incident occurred on the second floor of the main PMC building in the computerised property tax section. The man had been pursuing a matter related to a property tax proposal concerning his land in Kondhwa. The tax assessment reportedly involved an amount running into several crores of rupees.

The individual had also been attempting to avail benefits under the civic body’s Abhay Yojana for pending dues. He claimed that officials were deliberately delaying the issuance of the required property tax bill copy needed to complete the process. With the deadline for the scheme ending on Sunday and the municipal offices remaining closed on Saturday, he was pressing for the immediate release of the bill.

During an argument with property tax officials and staff, the man allegedly took out his licensed pistol and placed it against his own head in a fit of anger. The incident created panic among employees and citizens present in the office. Security personnel were immediately alerted.

After the matter was brought to the notice of PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, a decision was taken to file a police complaint. Police action in the case was underway late into the night.

Officials clarified that while carrying a licensed firearm is not explicitly prohibited inside the PMC building, displaying it publicly or using it to issue threats is not permitted. Although the pistol was reportedly licensed for self-defence, using it to threaten self-harm in a public office constitutes a serious offence.

The civic administration has decided to lodge a formal complaint with the police and recommend cancellation of the individual’s arms licence and seizure of the weapon.

Meanwhile, concerns have also been raised about firearms being brought into civic premises. On February 9, during the PMC’s general body meeting, a corporator was reportedly found carrying a licensed pistol into the assembly hall, despite rules prohibiting members from bringing weapons into the general body session. The matter came to light after a senior corporator objected, and the weapon was immediately asked to be kept outside.

Commenting on Friday’s incident, Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said, “Displaying a pistol in front of employees in the Property Tax Department is a serious matter. A complaint is being filed with the police. We will recommend cancellation of the concerned individual’s arms licence and seizure of the weapon.”

The incident has sparked questions about security arrangements at the PMC headquarters and enforcement of rules regarding firearms within civic premises.
