Pune, 17th February 2026: Pune witnessed a solemn tribute to Vasudev Balwant Phadke, one of India’s earliest revolutionaries and a pioneer of armed struggle for independence, on his 142nd death anniversary. The ceremony was held at his memorial near Sangamwadi Bridge.

Vasudev Balwant Phadke (1845–1883) is remembered as a key figure in India’s fight against British colonial rule. A revolutionary leader from Maharashtra, he organized armed resistance against the British, targeting their administrative and military structures, and inspired many to join the struggle for freedom. Phadke’s efforts laid the groundwork for later movements and earned him the title of the “Father of Armed Revolution” in India.

The event, organized by the Phadke Sneha Vardhini, saw the presence of family members including yoga teacher Subhash Balkrishna Phadke, Dattatray Laxman Phadke, Chandrakant Prabhakar Phadke, Chandrakant Dattatray Phadke, Digambar Gopal Phadke, Sulabha Limaye, and Nandkishor Phadke, who offered floral tributes at the memorial.

Attendees recalled Phadke’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle, honoring his sacrifices and patriotism.
