Pune: Fire Erupts on Terrace of Vadgaon Budruk Housing Society; Residents Contain Blaze
Vadgaon Budruk, 19 February 2026: A fire broke out on the terrace of a five-storey residential building in Vadgaon Budruk on Thursday morning, but timely action by residents prevented it from escalating into a major incident. The blaze was extinguished before personnel from the Navale Fire Station reached the location.
The incident was reported from Gangai Heights near Pannalal Hostel within the Sinhgad College campus area on Sinhgad Road. Fire officials said the emergency call was received at 11:05 am, following which a fire engine was immediately dispatched. The team arrived at the spot at 12:18 pm.
Preliminary findings indicated that plastic waste, including bottles and discarded mattresses stored on the terrace of the G+5 structure, had caught fire. Thick smoke rising from the rooftop alerted residents, who acted swiftly by using buckets of water to douse the flames.
Their prompt response ensured the fire did not spread to residential flats or adjoining areas.
A team from Navale Fire Station, led by Driver Ganesh Sasane and comprising firemen Sanjay Sakpal (Tandel), Padaye, Vishal Dhaygude, Rishikesh Gitte and Korde, carried out a thorough inspection of the premises after arrival. Officials confirmed that the situation was fully under control and no residual heat or threat remained.
After ensuring complete safety, the fire personnel issued precautionary advice to residents and returned to the station.
No casualties or property damage were reported in the incident. Authorities have urged housing societies and residents to avoid storing combustible waste materials such as plastic and old mattresses on terraces, warning that such negligence can pose serious fire hazards.
