Pune Trader Alleges Rs 10 Lakh Extortion Threat Over Defamatory News, Case Registered
Pune, 28th February 2026: Police have registered an extortion case after a food oil trader alleged that he was threatened with the publication of defamatory news unless he paid ₹10 lakh.
The complainant (aged 24), who is engaged in the edible oil business and resides in Ambegaon Budruk, stated that the incident took place on February 27, 2026. In his complaint, he alleged that Sagar Gavli, editor of Maharashtra News Marathi channel, along with Sagar Hange, demanded ₹10 lakh from him.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly visited his company premises in the Handewadi area and later met him at Kanha Hotel on Katraj–Kondhwa Road. They allegedly threatened to publish defamatory news reports against his Indrayani Edible Oil Company if the extortion amount was not paid.
Based on the complaint, Fursungi Police Station has registered a case under Sections 308(3), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said further investigation is underway.
