US–Iran–Israel Conflict: Pune Police to Assist Iranian Students with Visa Extensions
Pune, 3rd March 2026: Security has been tightened in sensitive areas of the city amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, police officials said on Tuesday. Increased patrolling has been ordered at religious places and crowded locations as a precautionary measure.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ranjankumar Sharma said the deployment has been strengthened in view of the war-like situation in the Gulf region. “Instructions have been issued to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas,” he said.
Police have appealed to citizens to immediately inform the Pune Police control room on 112 or contact the nearest police station if any suspicious person or object is noticed.
According to officials, around 120 to 125 Iranian nationals are currently residing in Pune. They are in the city on tourist, business, medical and educational visas. About 30 Iranian women who have married Indian citizens are also settled in the city.
Police sources said there are around 60 Iranian students in Pune. Efforts will be made to facilitate visa extensions for students whose visas are nearing expiry, following guidelines issued by the Ministry of External Affairs. Senior officials from the Special Branch of Pune Police said they will directly interact with Iranian students and residents to assist them with the visa extension process.
Authorities clarified that the enhanced security arrangements are precautionary in nature, aimed at maintaining law and order in the city amid international developments.
