Pune: Dr Abhijit Chaudhari Takes Charge as New PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner

Pune, 10th March 2026: Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Dr Abhijit Chaudhari officially assumed charge as the new Metropolitan Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on Monday, March 9, 2026. He took over the position from outgoing Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase.

The charge handover took place in the presence of Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla and Joint Commissioner (Administration) Rupali Awale-Dambe. On the occasion, Dr Mhase and Singla extended their best wishes to Dr Chaudhari for his new role.

Speaking to reporters after assuming office, Dr Chaudhari outlined his key priorities for the development of the Pune Metropolitan Region. He said accelerating major infrastructure projects such as the Ring Road and Metro will be among the authority’s main focus areas.

He also emphasised the effective implementation of Town Planning (TP) schemes to ensure planned urban growth in the rapidly expanding metropolitan region. Addressing traffic congestion and strengthening infrastructure across the region will be another priority, he said.

Dr Chaudhari further stated that PMRDA will work in coordination with farmers and citizens to address their concerns while executing development projects. He also highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and said river improvement initiatives would receive due attention.

The new commissioner said the authority remains committed to building a well-planned, industry-friendly and livable metropolitan region.

Dr Chaudhari brings around 15 years of administrative experience to the role. Officials expressed confidence that under his leadership, PMRDA will continue efforts to transform the Pune Metropolitan Region into a balanced, sustainable and progressive urban area.
