Pune, 11th March 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured that the state government will address the hurdles in granting national memorial status to the historic martyr memorial of Umaji Naik at Mamledar Kacheri in Pune. He also directed Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to convene a meeting regarding the matter.

The assurance came during a meeting held at the Vidhan Bhavan on Tuesday (March 10), where a delegation from the Ramoshi–Berad community met the Chief Minister. The meeting was organised on the initiative of Kasba MLA Hemant Rasane and Shirala MLA Satyajit Deshmukh.

Members of the memorial trust and community representatives, including Appasaheb Chavan, Mohan Madne, Bhupendra Mujumdar, Sanjay Jadhav, Udaynath Chavan Maharaj, Bala Jadhav, Ganesh Patole and Sunil Jadhav, were present at the meeting.

During the discussion, the delegation demanded that the site associated with the sacrifice of Umaji Naik be declared a national memorial and developed as a heritage site. They emphasised the historical significance of the location and the need to preserve it for future generations.

Responding positively to the demand, Fadnavis said the government is committed to preserving the site as an important historical legacy. He also directed officials to initiate administrative steps to expedite the process for developing the memorial and granting it national memorial status.
