Cab Driver Bites Passenger Over Fare Dispute in Hinjewadi; Arrested
Pune, 18th March 2026: A 42-year-old IT professional from Nana Peth was allegedly assaulted by a cab driver following a dispute over the fare of a ride booked through an app in Hinjewadi.
Police identified the victim as Anurag Kishor Vishwanath Bhagat (42), who had booked a cab via the Rapido app on March 16 to travel home from Phase I area of Hinjewadi. According to the complaint registered with the police, the driver allegedly refused to accept the fare shown on the application and instead demanded payment as per the meter, leading to an argument.
The dispute escalated during which the driver allegedly abused and assaulted the complainant and bit his hand, causing serious injuries to his fingers.
A case has been registered at the Hinjewadi police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions for voluntarily causing hurt. The accused, identified as Sandeep Dagdu Kathe (30), a resident of Dhayari, has been arrested and further investigation is underway, police said.
