NAREDCO MAHI Delegation Visits Bhutan to Study Sustainable Development and Infrastructure

New Delhi, 19th March 2026: A high-level delegation from NAREDCO MAHI, that works under the aegis of Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Govt. of India, successfully concluded its study tour to Bhutan from March 9-14, 2026. The visit was aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of Bhutan’s cultural heritage, governance frameworks, infrastructure development practices, and community-led initiatives.

The delegation was led by Smita Patil, National President, NAREDCO MAHI. The tour provided a valuable platform to engage with key government officials, diplomatic representatives, and industry stakeholders, while offering insights into Bhutan’s globally admired philosophy of sustainable development and its unique focus on Gross National Happiness.

The delegation’s first key interaction was with the Tarayana Foundation, founded by Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. Discussions focused on the Foundation’s community-driven development model, women-led initiatives, and inclusive growth practices, offering valuable learnings for sustainable and socially responsible development.

During the visit, the delegation had the honour of meeting Sandeep Arya, Ambassador of India to Bhutan, along with Dasho Thuji Tshering, District Governor, at the historic Punakha Dzong. The interaction enabled meaningful exchanges and reinforced ties between Indian and Bhutanese stakeholders.

The delegation also visited the Embassy of India, Thimphu, where they met Aniket Govind Mandavgane, Deputy Chief of Mission. Notably, the Deputy Chief of Mission is from Pune. The engagement focused on strengthening industry-diplomacy linkages, exploring collaborative opportunities, and enhancing bilateral engagement. The delegation subsequently interacted with officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Further, the delegation held a meeting with Karma Wangchuk, Secretary, and Karma Dupchuk, Director General, Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport, Royal Government of Bhutan. The discussion centered on infrastructure growth, urban development, and potential avenues for collaboration between the two countries.

On the final day, the delegation engaged with the Construction Association of Bhutan. The discussion focused on construction practices, industry collaboration, and knowledge exchange, further strengthening ties between the real estate and construction sectors.

The study tour marked a significant step in fostering international collaboration, promoting sustainable and inclusive development practices, and creating opportunities for cross-border knowledge exchange. The insights gained from Bhutan’s progressive and community-centric approach are expected to contribute meaningfully to India’s evolving real estate and infrastructure landscape.
