Pune: PMC’s City Improvement Committee Approves Proposal to Extend Swargate–Katraj Metro Corridor up to Proposed Ring Road
Pune, 20th March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s city improvement committee on Friday approved a proposal to extend the Swargate–Katraj Metro corridor up to proposed Ring Road via Khed-Shivapur toll plaza.
Speaking on the development, committee chairperson Smita Vaste said the extension is crucial in view of the rapid growth in south Pune, Katraj and areas around Shivapur toll plaza. She said these areas have been witnessing a rise in traffic congestion related problems. “The project will provide citizens with fast, safe and environment-friendly public transport,” she said.
She added that seamless connectivity between the metro and the proposed ring road would help distribute traffic more evenly across the city and boost long-term urban planning.
Saste said the extension will benefit residents in areas beyond Katraj, the Shivapur toll plaza area and upcoming developments along the ring road, while also reducing dependence on private vehicles.
Describing it as a significant step for the city’s overall development, the committee said the proposal has been cleared and forwarded to the general body for final approval.
