Lightning Alert Issued for Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Western Maharashtra; Gusty Winds Expected

Pune, 27th March 2026: The Maharashtra Government has issued an urgent “Medium Intensity” lightning alert for several districts in the state, effective from Friday afternoon. Residents in Pune, Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar), Kolhapur, and Sangli are advised to remain cautious as weather conditions are expected to deteriorate.

Weather Forecast and Duration
According to the official alert issued at 3:05 PM (15:05), the state is likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light spells of rain. Isolated areas are also expected to see gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph.

The current alert remains in effect until 7:05 PM (19:05) today, March 27.

Government Advisory
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has urged citizens to take necessary precautions. The Marathi notification translates to a warning for residents to:

Follow all guidelines provided by the SDMA and local municipal bodies.
Stay indoors during lightning and avoid standing under trees or near electric poles.
Remain alert and ensure personal safety during the four-hour alert window.

Authorities in Western Maharashtra, particularly in Kolhapur and Sangli, have been put on stand-by to manage any potential disruptions caused by the gusty winds and rain.
