Daund, 30th March 2026: Pune Rural Police have arrested a 35-year-old stationery shop owner from Daund taluka for allegedly raping a 32-year-old woman at gunpoint after offering her a lift in his car near Kurkumbh on the Pune–Solapur Highway on March 25.

According to police officials, the accused was apprehended following a complaint lodged by the survivor. The firearm allegedly used in the crime has not yet been recovered.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Bapuraa Dadas said a case has been registered at the Daund Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. A local court has remanded the accused to police custody until March 31.

During the preliminary investigation, police found that the woman, a resident of Indapur taluka, had travelled to Kurkumbh on March 25 after learning that her brother was allegedly harassing their mother, who lives in Pimpri Chinchwad. She had reached Kurkumbh in a pick-up vehicle and was waiting near a bridge on the Pune–Solapur Highway while trying to arrange transport to Pimpri Chinchwad.

Police said the accused approached the woman in his car and offered to drop her off, claiming he was heading towards Pune.

According to the complaint, after driving for about three kilometres, the accused allegedly stopped the vehicle at an isolated location and attempted to assault the woman. When she resisted, he allegedly threatened her with a firearm. The complaint further states that he then forced her out of the car and sexually assaulted her.

The survivor also alleged that the accused assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she reported the incident.

Police said that after the accused fled the scene, the woman managed to return to her home in Indapur taluka. She approached the police the following day and filed a complaint. Investigators traced the accused using the registration number of the car, which the survivor had noted down.

Further investigation in the case is underway.
