Pune: Civil Engineer, Friend Arrested with Weed Worth Rs 6.5 Lakh
Bavdhan, 30th March 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Crime Branch has arrested a 24-year-old civil engineer and his 21-year-old associate for allegedly possessing hydroponic weed. Police seized around 60 grams of the contraband, estimated to be worth about Rs 6.5 lakh in the illegal market.
According to police officials, the Crime Branch team laid a trap near a residential society in the Mhalunge area on Saturday and apprehended the two suspects.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Pawar said that during the operation, officers recovered the hydroponic weed from the accused. During questioning, the duo allegedly revealed that the drug had been supplied by a Mumbai-based individual for distribution in Pune.
Police investigations found that the civil engineer, originally from Buldhana district, and his accomplice from Jalgaon district were staying in a residential complex in Uttamnagar, Bavdhan. The younger accused had reportedly come to Pune in search of employment.
Preliminary inquiry indicated that the two were also consuming the drug themselves and had allegedly started selling it to sustain their addiction and earn money.
A case has been registered against the accused at the Bavdhan Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
